About Me

Mathews Mwangi
Full-Stack Software Engineer

The story
I'm a full-stack software engineer with a backend core. I build distributed systems in Go and take them all the way to the screen — from event-driven pipelines and real-time infrastructure to the React and Next.js front ends on top.
Most of my work started with a problem I felt directly. Alebus came from standing at a bus stop for 45 minutes with no idea when the next bus was coming — so I built the whole thing: a Go event-driven backend, a React Native commuter app, and a Next.js operator dashboard. Lakazhub came from watching people navigate long-term rentals entirely through WhatsApp groups. I find a problem, understand the domain, and build from architecture through to the screen.
My core is backend — I work primarily in Go and have been going deep on distributed systems — Kafka, Kubernetes, gRPC — as the natural next layer of what I build. But I ship end-to-end: the React/Next.js front end is part of the product, not an afterthought.

What I Offer
Distributed systems engineering and full-stack product delivery — from architecture to deployment.
Backend & Distributed Engineering
Designing and building production-grade distributed systems — from real-time data pipelines to cloud-native microservice infrastructure.
- Real-time streaming systems (WebSocket, MQTT, Kafka)
- Distributed backends in Go — queues, caches, rate limiters
- Cloud infrastructure on GCP/AWS with Kubernetes & Terraform
- Full observability stacks — Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry
- Domain-Driven Design across bounded service contexts

Freelance — Full-stack & AI Integration
End-to-end product delivery for clients and personal builds — web platforms, mobile apps, and AI-powered tools shipped from idea to production.
- Full-stack web applications (Next.js, React, Node.js)
- Mobile apps with React Native
- AI integration — RAG pipelines, LLM-powered features
- Agentic AI workflows and chatbot assistants
- Client CMS, booking, and marketplace platforms

How I Work
An independent, end-to-end engineering service — here is how I run a project, what I deliver, and where my focus lies.
Discovery & project outline
Every engagement starts with a discovery call to understand your problem, goals, and constraints. From it I produce a clear project outline and scope before any work begins.
Agile delivery
I build in Agile cycles with deliverables reviewed iteratively. You give feedback at each stage, so the project stays aligned with your vision throughout.
Fully remote
All collaboration happens remotely. Discovery and progress calls run over Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, keeping communication clear, scheduled, and documented.
End-to-end ownership
I run each project independently as the product manager — owning planning, design decisions, and implementation from the first call to final delivery.
Commercial terms
Milestone billing
An invoice with timeline and milestones is agreed before work begins. Payment is milestone-based, with the final invoice settled on project completion.
30-day maintenance
Every project includes 30 days of free maintenance after launch for bugs and issues. Beyond that window, support and new scope are billable.
Let's Work Together
